Each student must have a complete and up-to-date Emergency Information Sheet on file in the school office. In case of illness, accident or emergency, if the parents/guardians cannot be reached, the school will contact the persons authorized to act in their absence. These persons should be notified of the intention to have them act in a parent/guardian’s behalf. (Education Code 49408)
In addition, every student enrolled in Extended Care must have a complete and up-to-date Emergency Sheet on file in the Extended Care office.
Students will be released only to those persons specified on the emergency sheet; therefore it is essential to contact the school office immediately if any information changes.
A copy of any custody agreements or court orders relating to child custody must be on file with the principal.
A smaller-version of the Emergency Information Sheet is kept in the class emergency kit.
Students are instructed in fire and earthquake safety and participate in fire, earthquake, and lock-down drills. In the event of a disaster, a command center will be set up by the school gate where children will be released to a properly identified parent or guardian as designated on the emergency information sheet.
The school provides an earthquake kit, water, food, and emergency supplies for each student.
In the event of a local emergency situation, i.e., an earthquake, St. John Vianney School will follow the directives from the Diocese of San José. Please listen to a local TV or radio station for news.
